What is Son's Island?

Son's Island is an actual island located approximately 11 miles east of New Braunfels in Lake Placid, which is part of the Guadalupe River. You can rent lakeside cabanas with private docks by the day and/or evening. You can also kayak, paddleboard, play beach volleyball, swim, slide, rope swing and more. The Address is: 110 Lee St, Seguin, TX 78155 (15-minute drive from New Braunfels). For overnight stays, we have two sister properties located nearby: Son's Rio Cibolo & Son's Geronimo both offer glamping and cabin rentals on a spring-fed creek. We have lots of amenities like pools, hot tubs, game rooms, and more.

How much does it cost to rent a cabana?

Weekdays are as low as $99 (Tue/Wed/Thu), $149 on Mondays, $149 on Fridays, $249 on Sundays, and $349 on Saturdays — each cabana includes entry for 8 people. Prices vary by season; fall and spring weekdays are less expensive, and holiday summer weekends are more expensive. Check availability online for exact pricing on your desired date.

Day Cabana Rentals: 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM. Evening Rentals: 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM. Overnight Camping: 7:30 PM – 10:00 AM.

Do I need a reservation?

Yes! Son's Island is reservation-only. We limit capacity to ensure everyone has a relaxing, uncrowded experience. Walk-ins are not permitted.

Can we bring more than 8 people?

Yes! You can have up to 15 people per cabana. Each additional person after 8 is $10–$25 extra depending on the day and season. Kids 2 and under are free and not counted.

What's included with the cabana?

Every cabana includes: private dock with ladder, shaded thatched-roof structure, picnic table, bar-top counter with stools, lounge seating, hammock, charcoal BBQ pit, electricity with fan, and running water.

Absolutely! Bring a cooler with all your food and drinks. Just remember: NO GLASS OR STYROFOAM containers allowed on the island.

Yes, alcohol is permitted for guests 21+. Please drink responsibly. No glass containers allowed.

We're big animal lovers, but Son's Island is a pet-free resort. Keeping the island pet-free helps us make sure every guest — especially little ones — can relax and play safely, without worrying about other animals. (It's also a condition of our island insurance.) Thanks so much for understanding.

How many cars can I bring?

Parking is very limited on the island, so each cabana comes with two parking spots. If you need to bring an extra vehicle, it's $25 per additional car — but we'd kindly ask you to carpool where you can to help us keep things running smoothly.

Are kayaks and paddleboards included?

Kayaks and paddleboards are available for rent. You can add them during booking or purchase a Watercraft Wristband ($29.99) for unlimited 45-minute sessions.

Is there a lifeguard?

For everyone's safety, please remember there's no lifeguard on duty and all swimming is at your own risk. We require life jackets for watercraft and recommend them for weak or non-swimmers — feel free to grab one anytime, they're free.

Depth varies around the island from 3-15 feet. Some areas near cabanas are shallow enough to stand, others are deeper. Staff can advise on the best spots for your group.

Can I bring my own boat?

Yes! You can bring your own boat or jet ski and dock at no additional charge. Cabanas B-10, B-11, C-1–C-6 are best for boaters (deeper water, larger docks). Warning: there are rocks in front of the island—staff will assist with navigation.

Yes! Fishing is included. Bring your own gear and a valid Texas fishing license.

Son's Island is rain-or-shine. We monitor weather and will issue rain checks by 12:30 PM on the day of your visit if there's continuous rainfall. Light rain or passing showers typically don't qualify.

Are there alligators or snakes?

There are no alligators in Lake Placid. Like anywhere in Texas, snakes and spiders exist, but we don't have more than other places. Use common sense, avoid heavily brushed areas, and stick to lighted paths at night. We've never had a guest bitten by a snake in tens of thousands of visitors.
