You can rent lakeside cabanas with private docks by the day, evening, or stay overnight in our all-inclusive tent camping setups. How much does it cost to rent a cabana?

On average, $99 – $245 per day, which includes entry for 8 people. Prices vary depending on the day and season—weekdays during fall or spring are least expensive; holiday weekends in summer are most expensive. Check availability online for exact pricing on your desired date.

Day Cabana Rentals: 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM. Evening Rentals: 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM. Overnight Camping: 7:30 PM – 10:00 AM.

Do I need a reservation?

Yes! Son's Island is reservation-only. We limit capacity to ensure everyone has a relaxing, uncrowded experience. Walk-ins are not permitted.

Can we bring more than 8 people?

Yes! You can have up to 15 people per cabana. Each additional person after 8 is $10–$25 extra depending on the day and season. Kids 2 and under are free and not counted.

What's included with the cabana?

Every cabana includes: private dock with ladder, shaded thatched-roof structure, picnic table, bar-top counter with stools, lounge seating, hammock, charcoal BBQ pit, electricity with fan, and running water.

Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Absolutely! Bring a cooler with all your food and drinks. Just remember: NO GLASS OR STYROFOAM containers allowed on the island.

Kayaks and paddleboards are available for rent. You can add them during booking or purchase a Watercraft Wristband ($24.99) for unlimited 45-minute sessions.

Is there a lifeguard?

No, there is no lifeguard on duty. All swimming is at your own risk. Life jackets are required for watercraft use and are provided free.

Depth varies around the island from 3-15 feet. Some areas near cabanas are shallow enough to stand, others are deeper. Staff can advise on the best spots for your group.

Can I bring my own boat?

Yes! You can bring your own boat or jet ski and dock at no additional charge. Cabanas B-10, B-11, C-1–C-6 are best for boaters (deeper water, larger docks). Warning: there are rocks in front of the island—staff will assist with navigation.

Son's Island is rain-or-shine. We monitor weather and will issue rain checks by 12:30 PM on the day of your visit if there's continuous rainfall. Light rain or passing showers typically don't qualify.

Cooler with food and drinks (NO GLASS - NO STYROFOAM), charcoal + lighter fluid + grill utensils, sunscreen + bug spray, towels + swimsuits, floats and water toys, fishing gear (if fishing).

What's the difference between camping and glamping?

Camping: 14' x 10' tent, 2 queen cots, fans, lanterns, entry for 4. Glamping: 16' bell tent with A/C, 2 queens + 1 twin, entry for 5. Both include evening cabana access. Bedding not provided—bring your own.

No, you'll need to bring your own sheets, blankets, and pillows. Queen-sized foam mattresses on elevated cots are provided.

Are there alligators or snakes?

There are no alligators in Lake Placid. Like anywhere in Texas, snakes and spiders exist, but we don't have more than other places. Use common sense, avoid heavily brushed areas, and stick to lighted paths at night. We've never had a guest bitten by a snake in tens of thousands of visitors.
